Establishing our Values
An important task for any business is to define its mission, aims, vision and values. This is something that we had been working on for some time, but in December we had a team day to specifically focus on identifying our values. We wanted to be sure that everyone was able to contribute and have their views considered, so we all descended on the office for an engaging morning of discussion and activity!
The day started with pastries…of course! The team was shortly allocated into sub-teams for the morning, ensuring a good range of expertise and roles within each one. Then, having had experience of leading similar sessions in different contexts, Emma and Laura took the reins and got the ball rolling!
An interesting conversation ensued about why it is important to define our values. We talked about the impact that someone’s values can have on their behaviour and on the way that others see them, considering examples that are currently prominent in the media.
Everyone then had the opportunity to individually communicate all of the values that they think are important to us at Contractus. These were then compiled, categorised, grouped, and prioritized by each sub-team. It was interesting to compare the end results! Some even ended up looking like a Christmas tree – very festive we thought!
After putting our heads together to consider all of the responses (as illustrated in a fancy word cloud) and results of the group task, we chose our top values that we agreed would be submitted to the Directors for consideration.
The Contractus team were then treated to an early delivery by Secret Santa and a lovely outing for Christmas lunch at a local country pub in Matching. Despite the chilly afternoon we were all warmed by the ambience of the venue and the delicious range of food on offer. A thoroughly enjoyable and sociable afternoon was had by all, and we look forward to seeing where 2023 takes us. Happy New Year!
